“The enemy of Netflix is not Amazon Prime or HBO. It’s your sleep.” – Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO.

He wasn’t wrong.
In our screen-filled lives, sleep has quietly become the first thing we sacrifice. One more episode turns into three, the phone sneaks into bed, and suddenly mornings feel shorter and heavier.

As a family, we used to laugh about this until it stopped being funny. The signs crept in: sluggish mornings, short tempers, that persistent fog that made life feel a little too heavy.

As the founder of Coral Slub, I learned something deeply personal. On nights when I slipped into fresh, soft sheets and followed a calming routine, my sleep was deeper, my mornings lighter, and my energy more grounded. That’s when it hit me good sleep isn’t just about how long you rest. It’s about how well you rest.

Why Sleep Matters More Than We Think

A Lady trying to fix her sleep schedule

Most adults need around 7–8 hours of sleep every night for optimal health. But the truth is, quality matters more than quantity.

Common sleep issues include:

  1. Trouble falling asleep
  2. Waking up frequently
  3. Oversleeping and still feeling tired
  4. Irregular bedtime schedules (thanks to stress and screens)
  5. Conditions like sleep apnea

Skipping rest doesn’t just make you groggy it affects memory, focus, immunity, and even mood. Sleep is your body’s reset button. Without it, even simple days feel like uphill climbs.

Step 1: Start With Measurement

You can’t improve what you don’t measure.
Start tracking your sleep using smartwatches or fitness bands like Fitbit, Apple Watch, or Samsung Health.

Pay attention to:

  1. Deep sleep cycles
  2. Bedtime consistency
  3. Average sleep duration

A simple test? If you wake up feeling refreshed, your sleep quality is right. If you wake up tired or moody, something’s off.

Step 2: Learn Your Ideal Sleep Duration

Measure sleep duration

Did you know that too much sleep can be just as harmful as too little?

  1. Less than 6 hours: fatigue, poor focus, higher stress
  2. 7–8 hours: the sweet spot for most adults
  3. More than 9 hours: often leads to lethargy and sluggishness

The goal isn’t endless hours under a blanket , it’s restorative, quality sleep that rejuvenates your mind and body.

Step 3: Follow the S.L.E.E.P. Framework

SLEEP Framework

To make better sleep easy and memorable, I have created a simple guide : S.L.E.E.P
Each letter stands for a habit that can transform your nights.

S – Set a Routine:
Bedtimes aren’t just for kids. Fix a consistent sleep and wake cycle your body can rely on. In our home, even weekends begin with the same morning tea ritual, it’s our way of keeping balance.

L – Limit Screens:
I love Netflix and Instagram reels as much as anyone, but turning them off an hour before bed changed everything. Try reading or listening to calming music instead.

E – Environment Matters:
Dim the lights, cool the room, draw the curtains. Your bedroom should feel like a sanctuary, not an office extension.

E – Eliminate Late Caffeine:
That evening coffee date might feel comforting, but caffeine lingers for hours. Swap it for herbal tea or warm milk, your body will thank you.

P – Premium Linen:
This one’s close to my heart. Fresh, soft, breathable sheets aren’t a luxury , they’re essential for quality rest. At Coral Slub, customers often tell us their first night in our cotton sheets felt like “slipping into calm.”

Founder’s Tip: Don’t wait for Sunday laundry day. Change your sheets midweek and notice how much lighter you feel when you slip into bed.

Step 4: Build Calming Evening Rituals

Your body responds beautifully to gentle cues. Teach it when to unwind through a few mindful rituals:

  1. A 5-minute meditation or breathing exercise

  2. Gentle stretches or yoga

  3. Reading a few pages of a book

  4. Changing into clean nightwear and crisp Coral Slub linens

These little acts send a powerful message that it’s time to rest.

Step 5: Treat Sleep as a Lifestyle Choice

Sleep isn’t wasted time; it’s the foundation of your productivity, creativity, and emotional balance.

When you prioritize rest, you wake up with more focus, better mood, and a renewed sense of purpose. Pair that with breathable, natural fabrics, and bedtime transforms from a routine into a ritual of self-care.
