Made for the Indian dining table
In Indian homes, sitting down to eat together is more than a meal. It is where the day is shared, where guests are welcomed and where festivals come alive. At Coral Slub, we believe that moment deserves a beautiful table.
A table runner or a set of placemats is the simplest way to get there. One small change can lift the whole table, whether it's a weekday dinner with family, a Sunday lunch with friends or a festive spread for the whole khandaan. That's why table linen is one of our widest ranges.
Reversible table linen: two looks, one piece
Our reversible runners and placemats are our most loved products. As the name says, they can be used on either side, so one purchase gives you two different looks.
Use the bolder side for festive meals and guests, and the quieter side for everyday dining. Or flip it with the season. It's our way of giving you more value from every piece you bring home.
Prints, crafts and more ways to use a runner
Choose from block prints rooted in Jaipur's printing tradition, fresh botanical prints, fine embroideries and more. Each brings a different mood to the table, from earthy and traditional to light and modern.
A table runner isn't only for the dining table. Try one:
- On a console or sideboard, under a lamp, a bowl or a tray.
- On a coffee table, to anchor books, candles or a small planter.
- On a chest of drawers, to protect the top and add colour.
- Across the foot of your bed as a bed runner, for a finished, hotel-style look.
- On a pooja table or festive buffet, to dress the space for an occasion.
Choosing the right size
Measure your table's length and width before you shop, then compare with the dimensions on each product page.
1. Runner Length: For a formal, dressed look, the runner should extend 15–30 cm (6–12 inches) beyond each end of the table. For a clean, modern appearance, choose a runner that is slightly shorter than the table length so it rests entirely on the tabletop.
2. Runner Width: The ideal runner width is approximately one-third of the table’s width. This proportion creates a balanced appearance while leaving sufficient space on both sides for plates and other dining essentials.
3. Placemat Size: Each placemat should be large enough to accommodate a dinner plate, cutlery, and a glass comfortably. There should also be adequate space between adjacent placemats to prevent the dining setup from looking crowded.
4. Number of Placemats: Provide one placemat for each person who regularly uses the table, along with two additional placemats for guests. This ensures flexibility when entertaining visitors.
5. Styling According to Table Size: On a small four-seater table, a table runner alone may be sufficient to create an attractive and uncluttered look. For larger six- or eight-seater tables, combining a runner with placemats creates a fuller, more balanced arrangement and helps define individual dining spaces.
Runner and placemat sets for a complete look
Some of our runners come with coordinated placemats, designed to be used together. A matching set takes the guesswork out of styling and gives your table a finished look in minutes.
You can also mix and match: pair a printed runner with solid placemats in one of its colours, or the other way round. Check each product page to see whether placemats are included or sold separately.
Don't fear the curry
With dal, sabzi and curries on the table, spills will happen. Many people skip table linen because they're worried about stains. That's why most of our runners and placemats are made in cotton, which is easy to wash at home.
Our cotton table linen is machine washable, but gentle care keeps it looking new for longer:
- Wash in cold water with a mild detergent.
- Hand wash where you can, especially embroidered pieces.
- Dry in the shade to protect the colours.
- Always check the wash care instructions on the product page, as some pieces may need special care.
Quick fixes for spills:
1.Blot the spill straight away with a dry cloth. Don't rub, as it spreads the stain into the fabric.
2.For oily curries, sprinkle talcum powder or cornflour on the spot and leave it for 15 minutes to soak up the oil. Brush it off.
3.Rinse the stain from the back with cold water. Hot water can set haldi and curry stains.
4.Dab a little mild detergent on the spot, then wash as usual.
5. Avoid bleach on printed and coloured linen.
Frequently asked questions
1.What is a reversible table runner?
A reversible runner has a usable design on both sides. You can flip it to change the look of your table, so one runner works like two.
2.Do I need a runner, placemats or both?
A runner alone suits smaller tables and everyday meals. Placemats define each place setting and protect the table. Together, they give larger tables and festive meals a complete look.
3.What size table runner do I need for a 6-seater table?
Measure your table's length and add 30 to 60 cm for a runner that hangs over both ends, or choose one slightly shorter than the table for a modern look. The width should be about one-third of the table's width.
4.Are your table runners and placemats washable?
Yes. Most are cotton and machine washable. We recommend washing gently by hand in cold water with a mild detergent and drying in the shade. Check each product page for its care instructions.
5.How do I remove curry stains from table linen?
Blot the spill, absorb any oil with talcum powder, rinse from the back with cold water and dab with mild detergent before washing. Avoid hot water, which can set turmeric stains.
6.Do runners come with matching placemats?
Some of our runners come with coordinated placemats. The product page shows exactly what is included.
7.Can I use a table runner outside the dining room?
Yes. Runners work well on consoles, coffee tables, chests of drawers, pooja tables and as bed runners.
8.Why choose Coral Slub table linen?
We design our runners and placemats for Indian homes and Indian meals: washable cotton, reversible designs for more value, and prints and embroideries rooted in Indian craft. Because India was never beige, and neither should your table be.
